Living on the Edge is a longitudinal study by UNICEF and UNFPA Malaysia, building on the earlier Families on the Edge initiative. This research examines the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising cost of living on low-income households in Kuala Lumpur. With a strong focus on women, children, and persons with disabilities, the study employs both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess their well-being over time.
The report reveals the persistence of poverty among these vulnerable populations and critically evaluates the effectiveness of current social protection systems. It offers evidence-based insights to inform policies aimed at reducing inequality and strengthening support for at-risk communities in Malaysia.
