UNFPA Malaysia, in partnership with local government agencies and companies, led a comprehensive campaign to address the pervasive issue of violence against women. Through a series of innovative initiatives, the collective aimed to raise awareness, challenge societal norms, and empower individuals to take action.
23 November 2024 - Orange Run: A Vibrant Display of Solidarity
The commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women was marked by a spectacular Orange Run in Putrajaya. Over 3,800 participants, including women, men, children, and families, came together in a vibrant display of solidarity. Organised by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), the Department of Women’s Affairs (JPW), and Jom Run, the event was supported by UNFPA Malaysia and various other organisations.
The Orange Run not only served as a physical manifestation of collective action but also symbolised the global movement to end gender-based violence. Participants wore orange attire, a color associated with the campaign, and carried banners with powerful messages. The event also featured a series of activities, including fitness classes, health screenings, and counseling sessions, to promote well-being and resilience.
25 November 2024 - Lighting Up the Nation: A Beacon of Hope
To further amplify the message of solidarity, UNFPA Malaysia and KPWKM illuminated the iconic Menara KL in orange. This symbolic gesture transformed the city skyline into a beacon of hope, drawing attention to the urgent need to address violence against women. The illumination of Menara KL will coincide with the 16 Days of Activism, an annual international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls.
